Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on Sunday following the team's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is presently at another club, which would create a potential hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who played over a century of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they begin the process of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, although he would be a shock choice given he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any compensation.
